Selling pressure in the derivatives market increased over the past 24 hours, even as Bitcoin gained 0.4%. The discount on Coinbase persists, so the price increase has yet to be accompanied by improvement in both indicators.

## TL;DR

Bitcoin is holding its ground amid negative derivatives pressure and a discount on Coinbase. Price resilience is evident, but stronger buying has yet to be confirmed.

The Bitcoin Derivatives Pressure Score

Over the past 24 hours, the derivatives pressure index fell from **\-25.36 to -60.80**. It has remained below zero since September 6: easing selling pressure over the weekend did not translate into buyer dominance. Meanwhile, the price rose slightly over the past 24 hours, meaning the stronger negative signal has not yet resulted in a corresponding decline in Bitcoin.

The index combines taker trading pressure with changes in [open interest](https://dev.axeladlerjr.com/charts/bitcoin-open-interest-btc/) denominated in BTC and funding rates. It currently shows seller dominance after accounting for these factors, but it cannot establish whether short positions are increasing or long positions are being closed.

### **Bitcoin: Coinbase Premium Index**

The Bitcoin Coinbase Premium Index chart

Coinbase has traded at a discount to Binance continuously since the evening of September 6\. The latest premium reading is **\-0.0455%**, while the 48-hour average is **\-0.0323%**. That average has become more negative over the past 24 hours, so the weakness extends beyond an isolated hourly move.

Coinbase is not showing the relative price strength that would complement Bitcoin’s resilience. Together with the negative derivatives index, this leaves the price increase without confirmation from either of the two indicators.

### **FAQ**

**Does a negative premium mean U.S. institutions are selling?** No. It shows a discount on Coinbase, but it does not identify the participants or measure net capital inflows or outflows.

**Would a move back above zero in the derivatives index confirm a bull market?** No. It would indicate an improvement in short-term pressure, rather than confirm a change in the long-term regime.

### **CONCLUSIONS**

The short-term assessment remains cautious: the price is withstanding pressure, but these data do not yet show buyers gaining the upper hand. A sustained move above zero in the derivatives index, alongside a return to positive territory in the 48-hour average Coinbase premium, would signal improvement. The main risk is a renewed price decline if negative pressure persists.
